The Ghana Police Service has warned that it will take serious action against members of the public who will circulate false information from the Assin North by-election.
The police administration issue the warning after a meeting with political parties participating in the Assin North by election.
According to a statement issued after the meeting the police urged to the public to be circumspect in their reportage regarding the election.
“One concern all the stakeholders want the public to help them address is the circulation of false information on social media. In this regard, we would like to urge the public to be circumspect in their reportage on the election and avoid circulating false information that has the likelihood to occasion a breach of peace since the police will take the necessary action against anyone found culpable,” part of the statement indicated.
The people of Assin North are voting for a new member of parliament after the Supreme Court stripped Gyakye Quayson of his position. Both the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party are adopting last minute tactics to win the seat.
The NPP has been embarking on developmental projects in the community to win the attention and votes of the people. The NDC on the other hand is presenting a candidate who is already in court.
