Museum Elmina takes Elmina’s history and heritage to students ahead of November 12 activation

Museum Elmina, a newly developed online platform dedicated to documenting the history, cultures, customs and heritage of Elmina, has held a pre-launch preview at Hollywood Preparatory School in Elmina in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Municipality.

The event, held on Friday, November 6, 2026, was aimed at introducing the platform to students and initiating conversations about the rich historical and cultural stories of the Elmina Traditional Area.

The website is scheduled to be officially activated on November 12, 2026.

Speaking at the event, the founder of Museum Elmina, Mr. Michael Kunke, explained that the pre-launch engagement was organised to create awareness, gather public feedback and encourage discussions about the history and heritage of Elmina ahead of the platform’s activation.

He noted that the website would be updated regularly to ensure that relevant historical and cultural information is documented and made accessible to the public.

Mr. Kunke therefore urged residents and the general public to embrace the initiative and take advantage of the website as a resource for learning about Elmina’s history and cultural identity.

Also addressing the gathering, Nana Amissah-Mensah Dadziebo, the Nguadohen of Elmina and proprietor of Hollywood Preparatory School, encouraged students within the traditional area to make good use of the platform and adopt it as an important learning resource.

He emphasised that understanding one’s cultural heritage should go beyond acquiring knowledge, urging the students to practise and live by the cultural values they learn.

According to him, students must not only learn about the customs and traditions of Elmina but also reflect those values in their everyday lives.

The event was attended by notable guests, including David Duron, Nana Amissah-Mensah Dadziebo, Uncle Ebow, Gladys Cassandra Bugashie and Eunice Johnson.

Museum Elmina is expected to serve as a digital repository of the town’s historical accounts, cultural practices, traditions and heritage, providing residents, researchers, students and people across the world with an opportunity to explore and appreciate Elmina’s rich past.

With its activation scheduled for November 12, 2026, the platform seeks to preserve Elmina’s historical identity and ensure that its stories remain accessible to present and future generations.
