Fresh trouble: NDC MP’s to demand Dampare’s removal as IGP soon

Members of parliament belonging to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have hinted that they would lead demands for the removal of the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akufo Dampare after they have succeeded in removing the Bank of Ghana boss.

Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga who gave the hint indicate that the IGP, Dr. George Akufo Dampare must live up to his constitutional obligations when citizens indicate their readiness to demonstrate.

He adds that no matter how difficult the situation may be, the police must be ready to provide security and allow citizens to demonstrate.

The Ghana Police Service has for some time now have been in a disagreement with the minority in parliament over their plans to demonstrate against the Governor of the Bank of Ghana.

Even though the police have agreed to provide security for the demonstrators, they have prevented them from using certain routes for security reasons. Mahama Ayariga believes the IGP is not in office exclusively at his discretion.

He hinted that the IGP will be the next public officer to face removal by the minority after Dr. Addison.

“The IGP is not there on his own. He should take off his uniform and check to see if he is the IGP. He has constitutional obligations to live up to expectations when citizens must demonstrate, no matter how difficult the task. Even if it is difficult, the IGP must assure the demonstrators’ safety, security, and protection,” Mahama Ayariga indicated.

“We cannot offer you the resources, budget, recruit for you, or equip you with logistics such as vehicles, and you claim you are unable to accomplish your job. After the governor of the Bank of Ghana, we will demand the expulsion of the IGP,” he revealed.
