Dozens feared dead in another mining explosion in Western Region

Many are believed to have died in another mining explosion in the Western Region of Ghana. The explosion which has since left many shocked is said to have happened at a quarry site at Anto Aboso, a community in the Shama District of the Western Region.

According to information, the explosion occurred around 10PM in the night of Saturday at a Quarry site known as STA-ADSAMS enterprise also known as Omni Quarry.

The cause of the explosion has since not been established but bodies of some workers who were at the site have been found. Some of the bodies include Chinese nationals who are yet to be identified due to the dismembered nature whilst three Ghanaians have been confirmed dead.

Police, Ghana National Fire Service and the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) have since reported to the scene to ensure sanity prevails.

People who live around the quarry site indicates that the explosion sent shockwaves to their buildings and that was followed by total blackout in communities such as Anto Aboso, Assorku Esssaman, and others.

“Although I was not there, l heard sirens probably from ambulance or fire trucks from a distance. We are told there was mishadling of explosive materials at the site and that caused the disaster”, a community member indicated. Search missions are currently underway to retrieve the remaining bodies.
