Former President and 2020 presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Mr. John Dramani Mahama has called on registered voters of Assin North Constituency in the Central region to vote for James Gyekyi Quayson in the June 27 by election.
Mr. Gyakye Quayson was stripped off his parliamentary position after the supreme court of Ghana indicated in a judgment that the MP was holding dual citizenship during the time of contesting the 2020 election. Parliament leadership was subsequently ordered by the court to expunge his name from their records.
Many in the NDC have chastised the Supreme Court panel for pronouncing what they described as poor judgment in the matter.
The Electoral Commission has since set another date for a by-election to take place at Assin North. Mr. Gyekye Quayson is currently the NDC candidate for the by election. At a recent campaign tour in the area, Mr. John Dramani Mahama called on the constituents to vote for Gyakye Quayson for justice to prevail.
“I want to sincerely thank all the communities I visited in the Assin North constituency over the last two days. I witnessed your overwhelming resolve to vote for James Gyakye Quayson once again.
Voting for the NDC and James Gyakye Quayson is a vote for Justice, to right the wrongs and for development. Above all, voting for Gyakye Quayson demonstrates the Assin North Constituency’s resolve to demand better governance and improved quality of life”
, he indicated.
