The inspector General of Police, George Akuffo Dampare has made a quick U-turn in his decision to interdict three officers who appeared before the parliamentary by-partisan committee.
Three Police Officers, COP/Mr George Alex Mensah, Supt/Mr Emmanuel Eric Gyebi and Supt/Mr George Lysander Asare were interdicted by the Ghana Police Service after they appeared before a parliamentary committee investigating a leaked tape which they were involved.
There have been several allegations from the parliamentary probe. The officers have indicated that the IGP is currently not managing the police administration as expected and as such, many police officers are unhappy.
They dared the parliamentary probe committee to conduct their own investigations. They also alleged that Dr George Akuffo Dampare engineered the tape recording.
Following the revelations, the police administration issued a statement indicating the three officers have been interdicted. In less than 24 hours, another statement has been released indicating the interdiction has been suspended.
“Following the interdiction of COP/Mr George Alex Mensah, Supt/Mr Emmanuel Eric Gyebi and Supt/Mr George Lysander Asare in connection with the leaked audio tape, the Police Administration would commence disciplinary proceedings into their conduct upon completion of the ongoing probe by Parliament.”
“In order not to prejudice the ongoing probe, the Police administration has suspended their interdiction,” the statement signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Frace Ansah-Akrofi read.
