‘Kokonsa’ Police Chiefs to defend Dampare’s Coup plot

Controversies surrounding a leaked tape where some police officers were plotting to remove the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akufo Dampare has taken a new stage. Parliament has set a committee to probe the tape and make recommendations.

Former Northern Region Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Mr. Bugri Naabu has already appeared before the committee. He named the Police officers who appeared in his office to make the allegations. He added that the police officers started making the allegations against the IGP and indicated that he should be removed to avoid him leading the New Patriotic Party to opposition.

The officer in question include Director General of Operations for the Ghana Police Service, COP George Alex Mensah and others. Heis expected to appear before the Ad-Hoc Committee today.

The committee was set up by Parliament to investigate an alleged plot to oust Inspector General of Police, George Akuffo-Dampare.

COP Mensah is expected to appear with two other colleagues.

This follows claims by the Northern Regional Chairman of the NPP, Daniel Bugri Naabu, that COP George Alex Mensah is the senior police officer heard on the leaked audio.

Addressing the Committee on Monday, Bugri Naabu said his decision to record the conversation about the proposed plot was to safeguard the interest of his party.
