I’m ready for a showdown with Boakye Agyarko – Addai Nimo declares

One of the presidential candidates of the New Patriotic Party, Mr. Francis Addai Nimo has indicated his readiness to contest the super Delegtes run-off election with Mr. Boakye Agyarko.

The New Patriotic Party over the weekend held a super Delegates conference to elect five out of the ten candidates seeking to lead the party. At the end of the contest, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia won with a total of 629 votes, representing 68.15% of the vote.

Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong came in second with 132 votes (14.30%), while former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen placed third with 95 votes (10.29%).

Mr. Addai Nimo had a tie with Boakye Agyarko after the two secured nine votes each. This means the party currently needs one person to secure the fifth position. None of the two has expressed interest of stepping down for the other. This clearly indicates that the party would have run a run off for the two on Saturday.

Speaking in an interview with Citi news’ Umaru Sanda Mr. Francis Addai Nimo indicated his will to contest.

“For now, I am still in the race. According to the rules or the guidelines, we agreed that if there is a tie for the fifth position, then there should be a run-off on September 2. That is what we put in the guidelines. But the guideline is a document approved by the National Council,” Francis Addai-Nimoh indicated.
