Burkina Faso terrorist attack: 7 Ghanaians reportedly dead

According to reports circulating on social media, the victims were Ghanaian male tomato buyers and truck drivers transporting tomatoes at the time of the attack.

At least seven Ghanaians have reportedly been killed in a terrorist attack targeting tomato traders in Titao, Burkina Faso, on Saturday, February 14, 2026.

According to reports circulating on social media, the victims were Ghanaian male tomato buyers and truck drivers transporting tomatoes at the time of the attack.

A journalist, Alhaji Gbangbanku, who reported the incident on Saturday prior to an official statement from Ghana’s Ministry of the Interior on Sunday, February 15, indicated that the assailants spared the female traders.

He alleged that the Islamist militant group Jama’at Nasr al-Islam wal Muslimin (JNIM) was responsible for the attack and that several trucks belonging to the Ghanaian traders were set ablaze.

The journalist shared images purportedly showing some of the deceased traders, as well as burnt vehicles and charred bodies at the scene.

The President of the Tomato and Onion Truck Drivers Association, Eric Tuffour, in an interview with JoyNews, corroborated parts of the account, although he did not confirm the exact number of fatalities.
He suggested that the attackers targeted the Ghanaian trucks after suspecting that their enemies had entered the town.

“What actually happened was that the terrorists suspected that some of their enemies had entered the country, and our vehicle was in the town at the time.

“They shot the male passengers, leaving the female passengers unharmed. All the men who were seated on top of the vehicle were shot dead,” Tuffour is quoted to have indicated to reporters.

He further stated that one of the drivers reportedly locked himself inside his vehicle, but the attackers subsequently set it on fire.

Agence France-Presse (AFP) has also confirmed that fatalities occurred during the attack.
In a statement issued on Sunday, February 15, the Ministry of the Interior said Ghana’s Embassy in Burkina Faso is coordinating with local authorities to visit the scene and ascertain further details of the incident.
