Akufo-Addo denies supporting Bawumia’s presidential ambition

Presidential aspirants in the New Patriotic Party are currently selling their campaign messages to members of the party to vote for them when the time is due.

All ten candidates are campaigning from different parts of the country. Most members of parliament of the New Patriotic Party have thrown their supports publicly for the vice President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia.

Many of them have been spotted in the campaign team with the vice president. The indication has been that the presidency led by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo is also in full support of the vice president.

The President has however denied the claim by indicating that nobody at his office has been asked to support any candidate. Speaking to some communicators of the party, the President indicated that his office has not thrown any form of support behind the vice President.

“The assertions by some in the party that government is somehow allegedly ‘intimidating or coercing party faithful to throw their weight or support behind one of the presidential aspirants…the allegation is being made that the government is putting its authority behind the Vice President. I want to say in very clear terms to you and to the world that it is a false and malicious narrative,” he indicated.

He adds that all presidential candidates are free to go about their campaign whilst any member of the party has the liberty to support any candidate of their choice without intimidation.

“There is not a single truth to it. That is why I can beat my chest to it and I can say without any fear of contradiction that there is no one in the party, there is not a single person in the NPP who can say that I have asked him or her to support this or that aspirant. I haven’t done it and I know why I haven’t done it. No minister, no deputy minister has been thrown out of his job or even been threatened because of their support for their preferred presidential aspirant,” he indicated.
