Assin Central Member of Parliament Mr. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong is alleging that the campaign team of vice President Alan Kyerematen has made attempts to bribe him to stop down from the race and accept a position as a running mate.
The race to the main election of who becomes the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party is a few weeks away. The two leading candidates in the race are Assin Central Member of Parliament Mr Kennedy Agyapong and Vice President Dr Mahamadu Bawumia. Mr Alan Kyerematen who was another threat in the trace but has resigned from the party to contest as an independent candidate.
Addressing a gathering at the Kumasi Jubilee Park after a health walk, Mr Kennedy Agyapong indicated that Dr Bawumia is engaging in activities that has the potential to collapse the NPP. He adds that the campaign team of the vice president has been chasing him with a bribe to step down for and grab an appointment as the running mate of the vice president.
Scores of inhabitants in the Ashanti region thronged the principal streets of Kumasi to march to show their support for the NPP flagbearer hopeful.
Many of the people who joined the march cited the current economic situation in the country as their reason for throwing their support behind the Assin Central Member of Parliament.
The persons who are primarily NPP sympathisers say they believe Kennedy Agyapong is the only candidate that can help the party retain power in the 2024 general elections.
