According to reports, the Ghana Police Service at Dansoman confirmed the arrest and rescue.
“The Ghana Police Service at Dansoman has arrested a woman for allegedly stealing a newborn baby at the Mamprobi Polyclinic yesterday. The infant was later rescued and reunited with the mother at the Dansoman Police Station today. Investigations are ongoing,” the police indicated in a press conference.
The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, triggering tension at the health facility.
Sources indicate that the suspect allegedly took advantage of a moment when the baby’s mother, who had undergone a caesarean section, was asleep after delivery. The woman is said to have entered the ward and picked up the baby without attracting attention.
CCTV footage from the hospital premises reportedly captured the suspect leaving the facility with the infant wrapped in cloth. The video, which circulated on social media, shows a woman calmly walking out of the hospital grounds with the covered baby.
The development sparked outrage in the Mamprobi community, with some residents reportedly storming the facility to demand answers from hospital authorities.
Police say further investigations are underway.
