IGP tape probe: Senior Police officers petition Ad Hoc Committee – Interesting details

It has emerged that some senior police officers have petitioned the bi-partisan committee set by Parliament to investigate the leaked tape in a plot to oust the Inspector General of Police.

Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Atta Kyea told the media in an interview after their last sitting.
The committee have so far called some persons who were captured on the tape to testify what triggered their actions. COP George Alex Mensah told the Committee that the current IGP, Dr George Akufo Dampare was not ‘correct’ and has mismanaged the police administration.

He further indicated that many police officers were unhappy with the current IGP and called on the committee to conduct their private investigations.

Many have read political tones in his line of answers whilst others are calling on the committee to ensure thorough investigations are conducted to unravel the truth in the allegations.

On his part, Supt. Asare told the Committee that the recording of the tape was engineered by the current IGP, George Akufo Dampare after using former NPP Northern Region Chairman, Bugri Naabu as conduit.

He also alleged that Bugri Naabu has grabbed for himself, a huge contract from the IGP and that could be the reason why he recorded the conversation as a reward.

The committee led by Mr. Atta Kyea has indicated that some Senior Police officers have petitioned them whilst the probe was still happening and they are yet to reveal the content of the petition.
