It appears Nana Appiah Mensah, popularly known as NAM I lied to the general public about an amount of money left in the care of the Ghana Police Service to be distributed to customers of the defunct gold collecting firm, Menzgold.
NAM 1 on October 20, 2023 in a statement indicated that he had deposited an amount of GHC 5 million to the Ghana Police Service. He instructed the police service to distribute the money to customers of his collapsed firm.
He also instructed that the money was to be paid to only customers who have successfully gone through verification process conducted by the company.
Whilst answering questions on the floor of parliament, Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame indicated that NAM 1 only deposited GHC 2.5 million and not the reported GHC 5 million.
“The record I have before me indicates that an amount of GH¢2.5 million was paid, so the claim of GH¢5 million having been paid to the Ghana Police Service is untrue. It was only GH¢2.5 million that was paid to the Ghana Police Service by the accused person.”
Aggrieved customers of the company have been clamouring for the release of their funds after Menzgold suspended operations in 2018. The company has since been accused of running a Ponzi scheme.
Nana Appiah Mensah, also known as NAM1, is currently on trial for fraud.
