Several Islamic clerics in the Tema Metropolis have held special prayers for former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, ahead of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries scheduled for Saturday, January 31, 2026.

The prayer session took place at the Tema Newtown Central Mosque, where over twenty Imams and Islamic scholars gathered to seek divine guidance and favour for Dr. Bawumia as the party prepares to elect its presidential candidate.

The exercise featured extensive recitations from the Holy Quran and special supplications, calling on Allah to grant wisdom, success and blessings to the former Vice President as delegates prepare to cast their ballots.

As part of the Islamic rites, a ram was sacrificed in accordance with religious tradition to further invoke Allah’s mercy and support ahead of the primaries.

Speaking to journalists after the prayers, the organiser of the event and Tema Youth Campaign Coordinator for Dr. Bawumia, Mohammed Pele Elias, explained that the exercise was intended to commit the electoral process into the hands of Allah.

He expressed optimism about a favourable outcome, describing Dr. Bawumia as a disciplined, humble and experienced leader capable of steering both the party and the nation.

Mr. Elias also called for unity and peaceful conduct among supporters of all aspirants before, during and after the primaries, stressing that party cohesion remains critical as the NPP prepares for the 2028 general elections.

He added that supporters of Dr. Bawumia are committed to maintaining peace throughout the process, noting that while the campaign is confident of victory, the former Vice President possesses the humility to accept any outcome.
