Mahama Replies Akuffo Addo On Machete Brandishing Comment: What He Said Will Shock You

Former President John Dramani Mahama has responded to President Nana Akuffo Addo on comments he made about some NDC members brandishing machetes at his office premises.

The NDC flagbearer in a tweet condemned the comments made by the president, describing it as ” a bit rich”, especially coming from someone who superintended over worse situations like the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election conflict, and the alleged killing of some eight people in Techiman during the 2020 general elections.

” This is a bit rich, coming from a President who superintended the mayhem at Ayawaso West Wuogon and has not had a word of sympathy for the families of our 8 compatriots who died from state-sponsored violence in the 2020 elections” . Mahama tweeted.

Background

President Nana Akuffo Addo said he took notice of some NDC members brandishing machetes at the office premises of the former president in the name of a clean-up exercise last week.

Speaking at a church service organized for the outgoing Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana in Adenta in Accra, Nana Addo noted that he hoped those people did not intend to cause any violence in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

In case they intended to ferment any trouble, the president promised that they would not succeed as the various security agencies would deal with them squarely.

” I want to assure you that the Akufo-Addo government is working hard to return the economy to a high rate of growth and characterize the management of the economy in the years preceding the COVID outbreak in 2020, which made the economy one of the fastest- growing in the world at the time.

” We can only do so if we forge ahead in unity and faith and have the belief that by the grace of Almighty God, the fortunes of Ghana under the presidency of Nana Akufo-Addo will be restored. I know times have been bad, but it is clear that our economy is rebounding back, and we are turning back the corner to growth and development, ” he said.
